Southern Cross Ministries was established in 2003 in the USA to help meet the need of planting new churches and training leaders for existing churches in Australia. This ministry works in partnership with churches and individuals in Australia and the US to accomplish these goals.
Our work is located in the Darling Downs region of South East Queensland near the city of Toowoomba. The Darling Downs is home to nearly 250,000 residents and is both an educational center and rich agricultural area.

Jim and Becky Newman started Southern Cross Ministries in 2002 and arrived in Australia in 2003. Daniel and Samantha Newman arrived in Australia in September 2009.

This congregation officially launched in April 2008, but began meeting together in the second half of 2007. Presently this congregation is meeting in homes. We envision this as only the first in a series of new church plants in the coming years across the Darling Downs.
We are now meeting in three homes in three locations (Westbrook, Hodgson Vale, and Pittsworth). Once each month we get the groups together in a central location.
Our region, like most of Australia is growing in population, while those who attend any church is declining.
It is our desire to plant vibrant churches that are faithful to Scripture and appropriate for the Australian culture.

To accomplish our goal of training leaders for the churches of Australia, we incorporated the Australian Christian Training Ministries Pty Ltd. ACTM also operates the Southern Cross Bible Institute which provides Christian training to churches and Christians in Australia.
